What is a morgue refrigerator?
A morgue refrigerator, or morgue cooler, holds bodies at about 34 to 40 F to slow decomposition before autopsy, identification or release. Types include upright and multi-body coolers, vault coolers with an individual door per body, roll-in coolers and walk-in coolers with racks.
Key features
- Individual door and bay per body
- Stainless slide-out trays
- 304 stainless interior
- Modular insulated panels
- Self-contained or remote refrigeration
- Body holding range 34 to 40 F
Standard design features
- Self-contained condensing unit. The compressor, condenser and evaporator come as one factory-packaged unit mounted on the cabinet, so no refrigeration lines are run on site. A remote split system is available when the heat and noise should be moved out of the room.
- Digital thermometer and temperature controller. A digital display shows the box temperature at a glance, and the controller holds the setpoint you choose for body holding.
Door seal and refrigeration
- Magnetic gasketed door seal. Each chamber door closes against a magnetic gasket that seals the whole door edge, which keeps cold air in and holds 34–40°F after the door is opened.
- Energy-compliant refrigeration. The self-contained refrigeration system uses A2L refrigerant and meets current DOE/EPA efficiency rules.

Plan this AMC cooler with its loading equipment
Compare the actual door arrangement, loading direction and tray access shown for this model. For upright storage, check every transfer height against the selected lift travel. For individual compartments, allow space for the open door and the tray or rail extension. Body count alone does not establish fit or transfer compatibility.
- Provide the required body positions, preferred loading direction and selected tray width.
- Confirm the overall footprint, refrigeration service access, electrical supply and delivery route against this model's approved drawing.
- Identify which trays, racks, carrier, lift or body boards are required. Only the items listed in the accepted quote are included.
- Describe customization requests for review; new construction or load-capacity claims require documented specifications.
