DuPont Tychem Chemical Protective Suits
DuPont Tychem is the chemical-barrier family of protective garments: fabrics that hold out liquids, chemical splash and, at the 10000 level, vapors. For funeral service, Tychem is the step up from breathable coveralls when the hazard is formaldehyde solution, cavity fluid, body fluids under pressure or spill cleanup. For mass fatality and hazmat work it covers OSHA Levels C, B and A.

Tychem 2000 Coveralls
The workhorse chemical splash coverall. Bright yellow so contamination is easy to spot during doffing, light enough for a full embalming case, and offered with serged or bound seams.
Tychem 4000 Coveralls
A heavier multilayer barrier for longer chemical contact. Choose bound seams for general chemical work or taped seams when you need a liquid-tight seam for spill cleanup and decontamination.
Tychem 10000 Level A Suits and Tychem 2000 SFR
Fully encapsulating vapor-protective suits for Level A entry, a dedicated training suit for drills, and a secondary flame-resistant coverall for work near flash-fire hazards.
OSHA Protection Levels Explained
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 Appendix B groups protective ensembles into four levels. Your hazard assessment under 29 CFR 1910.132 decides which one applies.

For embalming, OSHA's formaldehyde standard (29 CFR 1910.1048) requires that skin and eye contact with liquids containing 1% or more formaldehyde be prevented with chemical protective clothing made of material impervious to formaldehyde, and the bloodborne pathogens standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) requires PPE that does not let blood or other potentially infectious materials reach skin or clothing.

DuPont Tychem FAQ
What is the difference between Tychem 2000, 4000 and 10000?
Tychem 2000 is a polymer-coated fabric that holds out at least 30 minutes against more than 40 chemicals and is the everyday choice for splash and formaldehyde handling. Tychem 4000 is a multilayer barrier film tested against more than 120 chemicals, with taped-seam styles for liquid-tight protection. Tychem 10000 is the heaviest barrier, tested against 322 chemical challenges, and is used in fully encapsulated Level A vapor suits.
Which Tychem suit is best for embalming and formaldehyde?
For routine embalming, a Tychem 2000 QC127 hooded coverall or QC125 with elastic wrists gives an impervious barrier against splashes of formaldehyde solutions and body fluids. Step up to Tychem 4000 with taped seams for spill cleanup, high-volume or decomposed cases and decontamination work.
Is Tychem 2000 a Level A suit?
No. Tychem 2000 and Tychem 4000 coveralls are typically worn at OSHA Level B or Level C, depending on the respirator. Level A requires a fully encapsulating, vapor-protective suit such as the Tychem 10000 TK554T or the NFPA 1994 certified TK612T.
What is the difference between serged, bound and taped seams?
Serged seams are stitched and suit light splash. Bound seams add a strip of Tychem fabric folded over the stitched seam for better holdout and strength. Taped seams are sewn and then sealed with tape, giving a liquid-tight seam for chemical splash.
Do Tychem garments meet the bloodborne pathogen tests?
Tychem 2000 and Tychem 4000 fabrics pass ASTM F1670 (synthetic blood) and ASTM F1671 (viral penetration). Fabric results do not certify the whole garment, so pair seam type and style with the hazard.
How do I size a DuPont Tychem coverall?
Choose by chest and height. If you will wear the suit over street clothes, an SCBA or bulky PPE, or need to kneel and reach at the embalming table, size up. Sizes run M through 5XL; most styles add a small upcharge for 2XL and larger.
How are Tychem coveralls sold?
By the case. Most Tychem 2000 and 4000 bound-seam coveralls are 12 per case, taped-seam Tychem 4000 styles are 6 per case, Tychem 2000 SFR is 4 per case and Tychem 10000 Level A suits are sold individually. Tychem 10000 suits are made to order.
Do Tychem orders qualify for free shipping?
Yes. Tychem suits count toward the PPE free-shipping threshold. Mortuary PPE orders of $1,500 or more ship free to the Lower 48, and volume pricing starts at 3 cases.
