Stockpile guideOSHA, CDC and state compliance
Funeral home PPE is set by OSHA 1910.132 (hazard assessment), 1910.1030 (bloodborne pathogens), 1910.1048 (formaldehyde) and 1910.134 (respirators). 22 states and territories run their own OSHA plan for private employers, and your state funeral board adds prep room rules.

Mortuary PPE FAQ
What is the 2026 Year-End PPE Stock-Up Sale?
Through year end, PPE orders of $1,500 or more after discounts ship free to the Lower 48, and coverall, DuPont Tychem, coat and jacket cases save 3% at 3 cases, 5% at 6, 8% at 10 and 10% at 20. Gloves count toward free shipping.
How is PPE shipping charged below $1,500?
At a flat rate per case, shown at checkout. Once PPE in the cart reaches $1,500 after discounts, PPE shipping is free to the Lower 48.
Can I mix gloves, coveralls and Tychem in one order?
Yes. Use the PPE bulk order builder to mix any style, size and color, see your discount and shipping, then add everything to your cart or to a quote.
What coverall should an embalmer wear?
A PE-coated fluid-resistant coverall with a hood for routine cases, and a DuPont Tychem 2000 coverall for formaldehyde splash, autopsied or decomposed cases.
How much PPE should we stock for a mass fatality event?
Plan per decedent: decedents × handlers × units per handler, plus 20 to 30%. A 100-decedent plan with three handlers needs about 6,000 gloves and 750 coveralls.
What PPE does an embalmer need?
At minimum: exam gloves (many embalmers double-glove or use an extended-cuff glove), a fluid-resistant coat or gown with closed cuffs, eye and face protection, and shoe covers or dedicated footwear. Add an impervious apron or sleeves for heavy fluid work and respiratory protection as your formaldehyde monitoring requires.
What is the difference between the embalming coat and the embalming jacket?
Both are the same three-layer SMS fabric with a snap front, knit collar and cuffs, and three pockets. The coat is knee-length for lap and thigh coverage; the jacket is hip-length for removals, dressing, casketing and work where a shorter cut moves more easily.
Are the gloves sold by the box?
No. USPE exam gloves are sold by the case, one size per case, with one price for every size.
Which glove is best for embalming?
Most embalmers prefer a thicker glove with a longer cuff, such as the 15 mil high-risk latex or the 10 mil and 14 mil high-risk nitrile. Choose nitrile for staff with latex sensitivities.
What does OSHA require for funeral home PPE?
The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) and Formaldehyde Standard (29 CFR 1910.1048) require employers to provide PPE suited to the exposure at no cost to employees. Your exposure control plan and air monitoring determine the exact items.
Do you accept purchase orders?
Yes. Purchase orders are accepted from qualified funeral homes, institutions and agencies, and we provide W-9s and written quotes on request.
What PPE does a water cremation (alkaline hydrolysis) facility need?
Operators load the vessel and handle hot, strongly alkaline solution during unloading and cleanout. Plan for chemical splash protection: a DuPont Tychem 2000 or 4000 coverall or Tychem sleeves, chemical-resistant gloves, and goggles with a face shield. Check DuPont permeation data for the chemical and concentration your system uses.
What PPE is used at a natural organic reduction (human composting) facility?
Staff place the body in a vessel with plant material and later unload and screen the finished soil. SMS or breathable microporous coveralls, nitrile exam gloves and embalming coats keep fluids and dust off clothing. Add eye and respiratory protection, such as N95 respirators, based on your exposure assessment.
What PPE do morgues and medical examiner or coroner offices use for autopsy?
Autopsy work brings heavy fluid contact and splatter. Most teams double-glove with extended-cuff, high-risk gloves and wear a fluid-resistant PE-coated or Tychem 2000 coverall, with sleeves, eye and face protection. The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens standard requires employers to provide this PPE where exposure is expected.
What PPE does a forensic or death-scene team need?
Scenes can involve decomposition fluids and unknown hazards. Tychem 2000 or 4000 coveralls with hoods and boots, taped seams for wet work, and high-risk nitrile gloves cover most recoveries. A Tychem 10000 Level A suit is for hazmat scenes where vapor protection is required.
What PPE does a crematory operator need?
Retort work calls for heat protection: aluminized or leather crematory gloves, a reflective jacket or apron, a face shield and goggles. Add N95 or half-mask respirators for processing remains, and hearing protection near the processor.
Stocking a prep room, a team or a stockpile?
Build a mixed PPE order and add it to your cart or a quote. Purchase orders, tax-exempt and standing orders welcome.
