Product details
A 10 body upright mortuary cooler with twin insulated doors for parallel access and a 304 stainless interior, built in Johnson City, Tennessee by American Mortuary Coolers; starting at $15,670.89.
This 10-body dual-door mortuary cooler provides refrigerated storage on two included 5-tier end-loading racks, with a 304 stainless steel interior and a starting price of $15,670.89.
Each door serves one rack, giving the standard configuration ten body positions. Check rack compatibility, loading height, electrical requirements and the delivery route in the specifications below, then compare high-capacity mortuary coolers for your facility’s layout.
Refrigeration manuals and startup guide
At a glance
- 10-body capacity: upright dual-door footprint, smaller than walk-in alternatives
- Twin insulated doors: parallel access without thermal shock across the full cabinet
- 304 stainless steel interior: seamless welded construction
- Two 5-tier end-loading racks included: one behind each door, 10 body positions
- Precision digital temperature control: 36–40°F preservation
Racks included
Two 5-tier end-loading racks come with the cooler, one behind each door, for a total of 10 body positions. An 8-body version is also available. Select it in your quote options.
Standard design features
- Self-contained condensing unit. The compressor, condenser and evaporator come as one factory-packaged unit mounted on the cabinet, so no refrigeration lines are run on site.
- Digital thermometer and temperature controller. A digital display shows the box temperature at a glance, and the controller holds the setpoint you choose for body holding.
Door hardware and refrigeration
- Magnetic gasketed door seal. The insulated door closes against a magnetic gasket that seals the whole door edge, which keeps cold air in and holds 34–40°F after the door is opened. Clean and inspect the gasket weekly with mild soap and water.
- Energy-compliant refrigeration. The self-contained drop-in refrigeration system uses A2L refrigerant and meets current DOE/EPA efficiency rules. Standard units are sized for a conditioned room, and upgrade levels are available for warmer rooms.

Ambient Room Temperature & Refrigeration Sizing, Read Before You Order
The temperature of the room around your cooler matters as much as the cooler itself. Every refrigeration system rejects heat into that room. The hotter the room, the longer the compressor runs, and the harder it is to hold a steady 34–40°F . Standard refrigeration is sized for a conditioned, ventilated indoor room . If your space runs warm, upsize the refrigeration when you order.
Why ambient temperature is critical
- Holding temperature: an undersized system in a hot room cannot recover after each door opening, so box temperature drifts above 40°F.
- Compressor life: long, continuous run times in high heat wear out the compressor and fans early.
- Condensation & humidity: warm, humid rooms produce more condensate. Connect the drain line, and route it to the external drain or a condensate pump.
How to choose
- Account for heat from nearby equipment, sun-facing walls, bay doors and how often the cooler is opened.
- Keep the required clearances: 1″–1.5″ around the cabinet and 16″ above and around the compressor. A blocked compressor behaves like a hot room.
- Install indoors only. Unconditioned garages, mechanical rooms and rooms next to crematory retorts need a review before ordering, call 1-888-792-9315.
If the room runs warmer than 75°F, choose a Refrigeration Upsize option above.
Important, Read Before Startup: 2026 Packaged Refrigeration System
Due to the changing refrigerant models under new Freon regulations and updated guidelines, it is critical that you completely read all startup instructions before using your packaged refrigeration system. Please be sure you understand your startup settings and the proper overflow and humidity drainage ports, which require hose adapters.
Condensation Drain Requirement
All 2026 Heatcraft compressors require a drain hose attached to the drain port for condensation, to maximize energy efficiency. Connect the supplied drain line to the drain port before startup.
External Drain Connection
In high-humidity environments or during continuous heavy run-times, the unit may experience overflow. To prevent this, the indoor unit is equipped with a 3/4″ NPT external drain connection that can be routed to an external drain line or a field-supplied condensate pump.
Internal Re-Evaporation
Indoor PRO³ models include a hot-gas re-evaporation pan beneath the compressor, which uses hot refrigerant gas to evaporate condensation naturally during normal operation.
2026 and Forward, Heatcraft PRO³
2026 and later packaged Heatcraft PRO³ systems include many new features made possible by an extremely high-efficiency process. Reviewing the startup documentation ensures these systems perform as designed.
American Mortuary Coolers accepts no liability or responsibility for a customer's failure to properly start up the new AW2 fully packaged, plug-in refrigeration units. If you have specific questions regarding functions and operations, please reach out prior to ordering.
