Before you order racks, you need to know how many your cooler actually holds with safe aisle clearance. Cram in too many and staff can't work; too few and you waste cold space. This planner gives you a quick way to estimate capacity, then our team verifies it with a free CAD layout.
Take your cooler's interior width and divide by rack footprint width, leaving a working aisle (commonly 36–42") for cot and lift movement. Multiply rack columns by tiers for total body positions. A 4-tier holds 33% more per footprint than a 3-tier — see the 3-tier vs 4-tier guide.
Interior clear height (to coils and fixtures) caps your tier count, and the door width limits which racks roll in. If you're adding to an existing box, our retrofit guide walks the measurements. Browse racks in cadaver storage racks and coolers in walk-in coolers.
If you'll use a mortuary lift, leave maneuvering room in the aisle — a packed cooler with no lift access defeats the purpose. Our cooler rack systems guide covers full-room planning.
