Stainless Steel Sink Cabinets

304 stainless sink-base units with drainboards & plumbing access for labs, morgues & grossing rooms — USA fabrication, quoted per project. Content current as of August 2026.

Stainless steel sink cabinets are base cabinets built around a sink bowl — the bowl, counter, and cabinet body fabricated as one welded 304 stainless assembly, with an accessible interior for plumbing. In pathology labs and morgues they anchor the wet wall, pairing integral drainboards with waste routing that tolerates formalin-laden rinse water.

Why an Integral Sink-Base Beats a Drop-In

A household-style drop-in sink in a laminate counter fails at the caulk line — the seam traps soil and eventually leaks into the cabinet below. A fabricated stainless sink base welds the bowl into the stainless top with ground, polished seams, so there is no gasket or caulk joint to fail and no substrate to swell. Bowls are specified by size and depth (10–14 inch depths are common in lab service), with marine edges or raised rims to keep water off the floor. This is the same welded-seam logic that governs the rest of the casework line — see the Stainless Steel Casework Planning Guide and the companion Stainless Steel Base Cabinets page for the dry units on either side.

Integral Drainboards

An integral drainboard — a sloped, ribbed or smooth stainless surface welded to one or both sides of the bowl — gives rinsed instruments, containers, and trays a place to drain back into the sink rather than pooling on the counter. Drainboards are specified left, right, or double, sized to the work: instrument rinsing needs 18–24 inches; container-heavy histology benches often want more. Because the drainboard is part of the welded top, water is directed to the bowl by fabricated slope, not by hoping the counter is level.

Plumbing Access & Cleanable Interiors

Sink cabinets should be specified with removable back panels or open backs, and doors sized so a plumber can actually reach the trap, supplies, and any mixing valve. Interiors are welded stainless with coved corners so an eventual drip is a wipe-up, not a rot problem. On leveling legs, the cabinet interior stays inspectable and the floor beneath stays moppable — consistent with NSF-style cleanability principles. Leave utility stub-up locations on your drawings; we fabricate cutouts and access to match.

Formalin-Safe Waste Routing & Grossing-Adjacent Placement

Sinks that serve grossing stations see formalin-laden rinse water, so waste routing matters: chemically resistant trap and waste materials, no concealed dead legs, and — where your environmental authority requires it — routing to neutralization or collection rather than straight to sanitary sewer. Formalin disposal rules vary by municipality; verify locally before finalizing the plumbing design. Placement matters too: a sink cabinet immediately adjacent to the grossing bench shortens the carry distance for dripping specimens and keeps contamination off the floor path. Ventilated storage for the formalin itself belongs in a vented stainless cabinet, not under the sink.
