Sales Tax Policy

Sales Tax Policy

American Mortuary Coolers (AMC) is required by law to collect state and local sales tax on orders shipped to states where we have a legal obligation to do so — commonly referred to as “nexus.” This page explains where we currently collect sales tax and what that means for your order.

States Where We Collect Sales Tax

We currently collect sales tax on orders shipped to the following states:

  • Tennessee — our headquarters and manufacturing facility are located in Johnson City, TN.
  • Florida — we maintain a business presence in Florida that creates a sales tax collection obligation.

If your shipping address is in Tennessee or Florida, applicable state and local sales tax will be calculated and added to your order at checkout.

Orders Shipped to Other States

For orders shipped outside of Tennessee and Florida, AMC does not currently collect sales tax at checkout. This does not necessarily mean a purchase is tax-free — many states require buyers to self-report and remit “use tax” directly to their state on out-of-state purchases where sales tax wasn’t collected at the time of sale. Requirements vary by state, so please consult your state’s department of revenue or your own tax advisor with questions about your obligations.

Tax-Exempt Purchases

Many AMC customers — funeral homes, hospitals, medical examiner and coroner offices, government agencies, and universities — qualify for tax-exempt purchasing, whether through resale certificates or exempt-organization status. If your organization is tax-exempt in a state where we collect sales tax, email a copy of your current exemption or resale certificate to po@mymortuarycooler.com along with your order number or PO, and we’ll apply the exemption to your order.
