Pet Cremation in 2026: Equipment, Steps and Costs
Pet cremation in 2026, step by step: first call, holding, communal vs private costs, aquamation and the equipment pet crematories need.

Pet crematories, veterinary hospitals and pet funeral homes handle pet cremation every day. This guide covers the steps, typical 2026 prices and the equipment that keeps each call safe and respectful. It comes from TITAN Pet by American Mortuary Coolers, whose team's equipment has been used by funeral homes and medical examiners since 2009.
Step 1: The first call and removal
Most calls start at a clinic or a home. Bring a cot sized to the animal: the TITAN Pet P400 Pet Removal Cot for cats and small to medium breeds, or the TITAN Pet P700 Max Large Breed Pet Removal Cot for large breeds. A slider board lets two people move the pet from a floor bed or exam table without lifting, and an enclosed cot pouch keeps the presentation dignified on the way to the van.

Tag the pet at the point of removal and keep that ID with the pet through holding, cremation and return. Hold the pet under refrigeration until cremation. Our walk-in mortuary coolers and upright mortuary coolers suit pet crematories as well as funeral homes. For state body-storage rules, see Mortuary Cooler Regulations by State 2026.
Step 3: Choose the cremation type
Families usually choose between three services. Prices depend on weight and location. The ranges below are from CareCredit.
| Pet weight | Communal | Private |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 30 lb | $45 to $75 | $100 to $175 |
| 31 to 50 lb | $50 to $80 | $150 to $250 |
| 51 to 70 lb | $50 to $100 | $200 to $300 |
| 71 to 90 lb | $100 to $150 | $250 to $375 |
| Over 90 lb | $150 to $200 | $350 to $450 |
PetMD reports a similar spread: about $50 to $200 for communal and $150 to $450 for private, not counting the urn. Partitioned service sits between the two. If you offer it, a Small Case Divider Pan for Pet Cremation keeps each pet's remains apart.
Step 4: Aquamation as an alternative
Water cremation (alkaline hydrolysis) is growing for pets. Check where it is permitted in Water Cremation Laws in Your State and compare costs in Understanding Alkaline Hydrolysis Costs.
Step 5: Return and remembrance
Return the remains with the same ID used at removal. Many families value a final goodbye before cremation, and a TITAN Pet Cot Cover or Black Paw Print Pet Stretcher Wrap makes that moment easier.
