Heatcraft PRO³ Startup Checklist: 9 Steps Before You Power On Your Mortuary Cooler
2026 packaged refrigeration systems reward a disciplined startup. Skipping steps risks water overflow, nuisance alarms, and warranty exposure. Here's the condensed sequence for the Heatcraft PRO³ on any AMC upright mortuary cooler — always defer to the full manual on our manuals and startup guide page.
The 9 steps
- Inspect before signing. Check packaging and unit against the bill of lading; report damage to the carrier immediately.
- Verify placement. Indoor units need 50–100°F ambient, 2 ft clearance above for service, ventilation, and nothing stored on top.
- Never over doors. The evaporator section must not sit above doors or door openings, and airflow must cover the room.
- Level check. Within 1° of level — no more than 5/8″ drop per 3 feet.
- Connect the drain line to the drain port and add water to establish the P-trap liquid seal.
- Confirm your drainage plan. High-humidity or extended-run sites should route the 3/4″ NPT external drain to a drainage source or condensate pump.
- Power correctly. Dedicated grounded circuit only — no extension cords, no adapters, never remove the grounding prong.
- Energize. Controls arrive preset to factory defaults on the Dixell XR40CH controller.
- Verify operation — confirm pull-down to the 34–40°F set point and normal compressor cycling.
Why it matters in 2026
New low-GWP refrigerant platforms bring an extremely high-efficiency process with new drainage and startup requirements. AMC accepts no liability for a customer's failure to properly start up the new AW2 fully packaged plug-in units — read the documentation and call us with questions before ordering.
