Complete Prep Room Equipment Checklist for prep-room buyers comparing embalming tables, dressing tables, embalming stations, water control units, sinks, flushing stations, drainage, plumbing, safety workflow and procurement approval. The core decision is not just which table to buy. It is whether the prep room has the right surface, water supply, drain path, splash control, staff clearance, cleaning routine, transfer route, and documentation package for daily embalming and dressing work.
Use these working product and collection paths to move from planning to quote. The recommendations are intentionally varied so the page does not point every buyer to the same two products.
| Area | What to confirm before purchase |
|---|---|
| Table selection | Confirm standard, oversized, hydraulic, folding, dressing or autopsy/dissection use before approving the quote. |
| Water and drainage | Confirm hot/cold supply, fixture rough-in, drain route, floor drain availability, trap/vent requirements and licensed plumber review. |
| Safety workflow | Review formaldehyde-aware ventilation, eyewash access, PPE stations, ergonomic transfer paths, chemical storage and cleanup routines. |
| Stainless steel | Confirm cleanable surfaces, seams, splash protection, corrosion resistance and room-specific sanitation procedure. |
| Receiving | Check crate size, liftgate/loading dock, doorway width, room path, floor protection and damage notation process before freight arrives. |
OSHA has specifically addressed formaldehyde exposure and ergonomic hazards in embalming/funeral home work, so prep room planning should include ventilation, exposure control, training, documentation and ergonomics review. NIOSH has also published embalming formaldehyde control guidance including local exhaust ventilation concepts. CDC environmental infection control and cleaning references are useful for facility cleaning and disinfection planning, although each funeral home or morgue must confirm local requirements with its own licensed professionals and authorities.
For plumbing, drainage, eyewash, water control and ventilation, this page is not a code opinion. It is a procurement checklist. Final rough-in, drain tie-in, fixture selection, eyewash location and ventilation must be verified by the buyer's licensed plumber, HVAC professional, AHJ, state funeral board and safety officer.
For a faster quote, send room dimensions, photos of the path from receiving to the prep room, preferred table type, station orientation, hot/cold supply location, drain location, ceiling height, door width, whether a lift or cooler must interface with the table, and whether financing or purchase order processing is needed.
