Replacement Mortuary Equipment — When to Upgrade and What to Replace
Most funeral homes, hospital morgues, and coroner offices replace equipment reactively — after a failure — rather than proactively before service disruption occurs. This guide covers the service life indicators for each major mortuary equipment category and the AMC replacement options for each.
Mortuary Coolers
Mortuary coolers typically have a 10–20 year service life depending on maintenance and original quality. Replacement signals: inability to hold 36–39°F consistently, compressor cycling more than expected, refrigerant leaks, or physical deterioration of the door gaskets and liner. AMC 6-body dual-door upright coolers are drop-in replacements for most legacy 6-body units. Submit floor plan dimensions via the RFQ form for a direct-replacement recommendation. See: Replacement Mortuary Equipment Hub.
Embalming Tables
Embalming table replacement is indicated by: hydraulic lift failure on existing tables, cracked stainless surfaces, corroded drain systems, or a practice pattern shift requiring bariatric capacity. AMC’s Oversized Hydraulic Embalming Table (850 lb) handles bariatric cases and replaces most aging prep room tables. See: Embalming Tables | Prep Room Equipment Hub.
Mortuary Cots
Replace mortuary cots when: frame welds crack, undercarriage locking mechanisms fail, wheel casters no longer lock securely, or your practice has shifted to bariatric removals beyond your current cot rating. The PRO 1000X (1,000 lb) handles bariatric first call; the PRO 650X (650 lb) covers standard removals. See: First Call Equipment Hub.
Mortuary Lifts
Replace body lifts when: hydraulic cylinders leak, battery life on electric models falls below one shift, or lift rated capacity no longer meets your bariatric caseload. The Low Profile Powered Mortuary Lift is the standard replacement for aging prep room body lifts. See: Mortuary Lifts Hub.
