Cadaver racks live in a corrosive environment — embalming chemicals, body fluids, and constant cold-and-condensation cycles. The stainless grade and weld quality you choose decide whether a rack lasts twenty years or starts pitting in two. This guide covers grades, decon protocols, and what to inspect before buying.
304 stainless handles most mortuary environments well; 316 adds extra corrosion resistance for heavy chemical exposure and coastal humidity. The bigger durability factor is often weld quality — continuous, properly finished welds resist the crevice corrosion that pinholes and seams invite. All our cadaver storage racks are welded stainless, built in Tennessee.
Smooth, fully welded surfaces clean faster and harbor less. Avoid designs with hollow tubes that trap fluid. Pair racks with easy-clean body trays & boards that wipe down between cases. For ME/coroner decon standards, see our ME & coroner racks guide.
Check weld finish, edge deburring, and whether tubing is sealed. A rack that looks identical online can differ hugely in build. Compare a welded option like the 4-Tier Side-Loading Rack and start with the mortuary storage racks guide.
