Setting up or upgrading a cadaver preservation system for a university anatomy program involves more equipment decisions than most departments anticipate. This post covers the complete cadaver preservation infrastructure for gross anatomy programs, body donation programs, and forensic science departments that use wet-specimen or fresh tissue protocols.

Immersion Tables

For programs using non-embalmed fresh tissue, Thiel embalming, or wet-specimen preservation, cadaver immersion tables are required. USPE manufactures the Electric Immersion Dissection Table for high-volume programs and the Manual Immersion Dissection Table as a lower-cost option. Both are 304 stainless, built in Tennessee, available under university POs.

Cadaver Storage Coolers

Between dissection sessions, donors must be stored in a refrigerated environment. University anatomy programs typically use walk-in cadaver coolers with interior cadaver rack systems. A 10×16 walk-in cooler with 4-tier side-loading racks typically stores 16–24 donors. Larger programs use a 10×20 walk-in. For long-term frozen storage, anatomy freezers maintain 0°F for extended holds.

Cadaver Rack Systems

AMC stainless cadaver rack systems maximize storage density inside walk-in coolers. 4-tier side-loading racks and cantilever racks are the most common university configurations. Racks are built to AMC cooler interior dimensions and can be retrofitted into existing walk-in units.

Anatomy Lab Sinks & Water Control

Immersion table basin fill, drain, and the gross anatomy lab dissection area all require properly specified plumbing. USPE’s Water Control Unit and 4-Station Foot Pedal Scrub Sink are standard in university anatomy lab builds. See: Anatomy Lab Sinks hub.

Custom Casework & Specimen Storage

Preserved specimen storage, instrument organization, and supply cabinetry complete the anatomy lab infrastructure. USPE offers custom stainless casework sized to lab dimensions and standard stainless storage cabinets. See: Specimen Storage hub.

Single PO for the Complete System

AMC + USPE covers the complete cadaver preservation system under one university purchase order. Immersion tables, cadaver coolers, rack systems, sinks, and casework — all sourced from one Tennessee manufacturer. University procurement documentation, tax exemption forms, and W-9 available. → Request a Cadaver Preservation System Quote.
