Maintenance Schedule at a Glance

Frequency Tasks
After each case Rinse full surface with warm water; apply facility-approved disinfectant per label dwell time; rinse again; flush drain with 2–3 gallons of warm water; remove and rinse body grates/rests; dry with the grain.
Daily Inspect drain screen and clear debris; check faucet/sprayer function and aerator flow; wipe undershelf and frame; confirm water supply connections are drip-free.
Weekly Deep-clean grates and channels; descale water-contact surfaces if hard-water spotting appears (approved descaler only); check caster lock function and roll; inspect hinge points on lids/accessories; verify table is level.
Quarterly Full drain trap service; torque-check accessible fasteners; lubricate casters and pivot points with food-grade lubricant; inspect welds and seams for cracking; test pedestal/hydraulic height cycle through full range; record on the Quarterly Inspection Log.
Annually Professional review of plumbing connections, backflow protection, and (for adjustable models) lift mechanism; re-passivate stainless if surface rust points appeared during the year.

Drain & Water System Care

The drain is the highest-failure point on any autopsy table. Flush after every case, keep the removable screen in place at all times, and never allow plaster, casting media, or large solids down the drain — route those to a solids interceptor per your drainage plan. For sink-integrated tables like the 1035-8PAT Autopsy Table with Integrated Sink, service the sink trap on the same quarterly cycle.

Adjustable-Height & Pedestal Models

For pedestal tables like the 1035-PED Adjustable-Height Pedestal Autopsy Table: cycle the lift through its full range weekly even if unused, listen for new noise, and keep the column boot free of standing fluid. Never exceed rated load, and never wash down electrical or hydraulic components with pressurized water.

Surface Care Rules

  • Clean and dry with the grain of the stainless.
  • Use facility-approved disinfectants; rinse thoroughly after dwell — chloride residue left to dry is the #1 cause of pitting.
  • Never use steel wool, carbon-steel brushes, or muriatic acid. See the full Stainless Steel Care Guide.
Compliance Notice: Equipment selection should be reviewed with facility safety officers, licensed contractors, ventilation engineers, and applicable authorities having jurisdiction. USPE equipment supports professional workflow and cleanability but does not independently guarantee OSHA, EPA, CAP, Joint Commission, state, local, or institutional compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should an autopsy table drain be flushed?

Flush with 2–3 gallons of warm water after every case, and complete a full trap service quarterly. Daily flushing prevents the buildup that causes odor complaints and slow drainage.

What causes rust spots on a stainless autopsy table?

Almost always chloride exposure — bleach or disinfectant residue left to dry, or contamination from carbon-steel tools. The fix is thorough rinsing after disinfection, drying with the grain, and removing any rust points promptly before re-passivating the surface.

Can I pressure-wash an autopsy table?

Surface rinsing is fine, but never direct pressurized water at hydraulic components, electrical actuators, or column boots on adjustable models. Wipe those areas by hand.

Need a new autopsy table or replacement grates?

USPE builds stainless autopsy tables factory-direct in Tennessee and supports every unit we ship.
